Mansionz

Running through the opulent mansions south of Broad Street in Charleston, SC gave me a fragmentary view of grandeur through the elaborate wrought iron fences that descendants of slaves crafted as barriers and status symbols. The disrupted views are all “common people” can glimpse of the affluence within. The fences serve as a talisman of privilege, depriving us of the commanding unbroken view long linking the landscape tradition to power.
